For exporters

Certificate of Origin: Preferential & Non-Preferential

A certificate of origin (CoO) shows where your goods were made. We assist you in applying online on DGFT’s eCoO 2.0 platform and preparing the origin documents your buyer, bank or the importing country asks for.

Online only

New CoO applications are filed on DGFT’s eCoO 2.0 platform (trade.gov.in), using your DGFT login and a DSC linked to your IEC.

  • Preferential CoO under India’s trade agreements
  • Non-preferential CoO
  • Issued by the notified issuing agencies
How we help

Certificate of origin support

The issuing agency decides each application. We help you prepare a complete, correct one.

1Preferential CoO

Lets your buyer claim lower import duty under an FTA or PTA India has with their country (for example the India–UAE CEPA or the India–Australia ECTA), if your goods meet that agreement’s rules of origin.

2Non-preferential CoO

Needed when a buyer, bank, letter of credit or the importing country asks for proof of origin, without any duty benefit.

3Origin check

We help you check which agreement applies, the product’s HS code and whether it meets the rules of origin, and gather cost and sourcing documents.

4Online filing

We prepare and submit the application on eCoO 2.0, upload invoices and supporting documents, and follow up with the issuing agency, including a written request if processing is delayed.

5Corrections and duplicates

Help with in-lieu or duplicate certificates and queries raised by the issuing agency.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between preferential and non-preferential?

A preferential CoO is issued under a trade agreement so the importer can claim reduced duty. A non-preferential CoO only certifies the country of origin.

Where is the application filed?

On DGFT’s eCoO 2.0 platform at trade.gov.in. DGFT moved non-preferential CoOs there from 28 August 2024 and preferential CoOs from 17 January 2025.

Do I need a DSC?

Yes. The application is signed with a digital signature linked to your IEC. We can help you get a Class 3 DSC if you do not have one.

Who issues the certificate?

The issuing agencies notified by DGFT, such as export promotion councils and chambers of commerce, depending on the certificate type. We are not an issuing agency.

M. S. Advisory Services is a private advisory firm and is not affiliated with any government body. Certificates of origin are issued by DGFT-notified issuing agencies. Our fee is for professional assistance only.
