    What we do

US FDA services for food exporters

From DUNS to submission, and the paperwork your US importer will ask for.

    1New Food Facility Registration (FFR)

We set up your FDA Industry Systems (FIS) account, prepare your facility details and product categories, and submit the registration. FDA then issues a registration number. FDA does not issue a registration certificate. Your proof is the registration number and FDA’s confirmation.

    22026 Biennial Renewal

Registered facilities must renew between 1 October and 31 December of every even-numbered year. We review and update your details (owner, emergency contact, product categories, US Agent, UFI) and complete the renewal. If you are a qualified facility, we also file the qualified facility attestation, due in the same window.

    3US Agent through a US-based partner

A foreign facility must name a US Agent who lives or has a place of business in the United States. We arrange this through a US-based partner. FDA checks that the US Agent has accepted before the registration is complete. The US Agent’s fee is a private service charge, not an FDA fee.

    4DUNS number (Unique Facility Identifier)

FDA requires a Unique Facility Identifier (UFI) with every registration and renewal and currently accepts the DUNS number. The name and address on your DUNS record must match your FDA registration. D&B offers a free route for FDA purposes, but it can take several weeks, so start early.

    5Prior Notice for each shipment

FDA must receive Prior Notice before imported food arrives in the US: at least 2 hours before arrival by road, 4 hours by air or rail, and 8 hours by sea. It is usually filed by the US importer or customs broker. We help you give them accurate shipment data.

    6FSMA: Preventive Controls and PCQI

Most registered facilities must follow FDA’s Preventive Controls for Human Food rule: a written food safety plan prepared or overseen by a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI). We help you prepare the plan and records.

7FSVP support for your US importer

Under the Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVP) rule, US importers must verify their foreign suppliers. We help you put together the documents your importer will ask for: food safety plan, test reports and audit reports.

    8US label review

We check your label against FDA rules: statement of identity, net quantity (US and metric), ingredient list, Nutrition Facts, the nine major food allergens (including sesame), and the manufacturer’s or distributor’s name and address.

    9LACF and Acidified Foods

Low-acid canned and acidified foods, such as pickles and some sauces, need a Food Canning Establishment (FCE) registration and a process filing (SID) for each product and container size (21 CFR Parts 108, 113 and 114). We help you prepare these with your process authority.

    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

Does FDA charge a fee for food facility registration?

No. FDA charges no fee to register or renew a food facility, and you do not have to use a third party to register. Our charges are for our professional services and the US Agent service.

Will I get an FDA registration certificate?

No. FDA does not issue registration certificates and does not recognise certificates issued by private businesses. You receive an FDA registration number and confirmation.

    When must I renew?

Between 1 October and 31 December 2026. Registrations not renewed by 31 December 2026 are treated as expired.

Do I need a DUNS number?

Yes. FDA requires a UFI and currently accepts the DUNS number. The name and address must match your registration.

    Who files Prior Notice?

Usually the US importer or customs broker, before the shipment arrives.

Do I need FSVP or a PCQI?

FSVP is the US importer’s obligation, but your importer will ask you for documents. Most registered facilities need a food safety plan prepared or overseen by a PCQI.

Is my canned or bottled product LACF or acidified?

If it is shelf-stable, hermetically sealed and low-acid or acidified, it probably is. See FDA’s LACF/acidified foods guidance, or ask us to check.

    How long does it take?

Once we have your details, DUNS and US Agent confirmation, filing itself is quick. Getting a new DUNS number can take several weeks on the free route, so start early. We give you a realistic timeline for your case when you call.

Can you renew a registration someone else filed?

Yes, if you can share the FIS account login or we help you recover access. We review all details before renewing.

Are you part of the US FDA?

No. M. S. Advisory Services is a private advisory firm, not affiliated with the US FDA or any government body.
