FSSAI stands for the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. This regulatory body has been set up to provide access to the quality requirements of the food industry. The FSSAI is the key regulatory body responsible for issuing food licences in India.

This authority has been set up by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The provisions of the FSSAI Act will refer to this body and all food body operators in India.

To comply with international food safety requirements, this body has been set up as an independent authority for the management of food quality in India.
