Authorised Economic Operator (AEO)

The Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Program is one of the specific international instruments that the World Customs Organisation (WCO) has been applying to current supply chain safety standards between customs and business since 2005.

Role of AEO

The AEO Program aims to provide tangible benefits in the form of faster customs clearance and simpler customs procedure for business entities that provide a higher level of security assurances in terms of their role in the supply chain. In this sense, India launches its AEO programme in 2011 before the introduction of the Certified Client Program (ACP).

However in view of international developments and view of the Government of India's emphasis on 'Ease of Doing Business,' the need to have a current and updated system in place, a new comprehensive unified trade facilitation programme has been developed by integrating the existing ACP scheme and the current AEO programme into the revised AEO programme.

Divisions of AEO

The new AEO programme is divided into two different groups, i.e. economic operators other than importers and exporters held under One-Tier Certification (i.e. AEO-LO). Whereas Three-Tier Certification (i.e. AEO-T1, AEO-T2 & AEO-T3) will be issued for importers and exporters.

National Program for Organic Production (NPOP)

In order to ensure the oriented and well-directed growth of organic agriculture and quality products, the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Government of India launched the National Program for Organic Production (NPOP) in 2000. This program was officially approved under the Foreign Trade & Development Act in October 2001. According to DGFT notices, agricultural goods exported as organic must have an organic certificate provided by an accredited certifying organisation.

Certification enables you to use the Indian Organic logo. The India Organic certification label certifies that the organic food product complies with the NPOP requirements.

The scope of the NPOP shall be exhaustive. It includes policies for the production and certification of organic products and national requirements for certain products and processes. NPOP also takes into account the accreditation of the services to be run by the inspection and certification agencies and the certification of organic products.
